Kanonara vs Campfire
Campfire, from Campfire Technology, launched its writing software in 2018 and now offers 18 writing and worldbuilding modules, an eBook store and a reading app. Kanonara is a newer platform built for novels, light novels and web serials, around a Story Bible, Story Doctor continuity checking and fixed A6 book pages with a public reader. This page compares the two using what each vendor says on its own site, so you can pick by what you actually write.

Where Campfire is the better choice
Campfire has spent years building the category's widest set of dedicated worldbuilding modules, and it sells them the traditional way. Choose it when your work looks like this:
You want the deepest worldbuilding toolbox
Campfire ships 18 worldbuilding modules: interactive maps with pins, species, cultures, religions, philosophies, magic systems and a conlang tool with custom scripts and dictionaries. Kanonara keeps one encyclopedia-style world record; its auto-expanding map is planned and not built yet.
You prefer to buy software once
Campfire sells lifetime purchases and per-module plans (its home page says paid plans start as low as $0.50/month), and its desktop app works offline. Kanonara is a hosted web service and does not yet have published prices.
You have a finished book to sell
Campfire's store takes an EPUB upload, pays up to 80% royalties on digital purchases (sales below $2.99 earn 40%), supports an optional DRM toggle, and lets you attach unlockable bonus content such as character profiles and interactive maps.
You write with collaborators
Campfire lets you invite as many collaborators as you want at no cost, with spoiler-hiding viewing modes for beta readers. Kanonara's docs do not describe collaborator access today.

Kanonara is built around one problem: keeping long fiction consistent while it is being published. Choose it when your work looks like this:
Continuity is your bottleneck
Story Doctor reads each analysed chapter against your recorded canon and files cited findings: character contradictions, timeline conflicts, item continuity, character knowledge and world rules. On the Campfire pages we checked, reference material links to your manuscript, but no automated checker is named.
Your canon needs dates and states
Character states are dated to story time, so chapter 80 can be checked against who knew what in chapter 8. Every story fact carries a canon state (canon, proposed, inferred, theory, unknown, rejected), and nothing becomes canon without your approval.
You publish chapters on a schedule
Kanonara publishes per book, then per chapter, with scheduled releases to a public library, reader comments and reactions, and follows with new-chapter emails. Campfire's publishing page describes uploading a finished EPUB; it does not mention scheduled chapter releases.
You want the page to be the product
Kanonara writes on fixed A6 book pages with locked type, and the reader reads the same pages, so the layout you edit is the layout readers see. Story Doctor is analysis only: findings return as proposals you accept or reject, never inserted text.
The bottom line
If your center of gravity is worldbuilding reference, a module you can buy once and run offline, or a store for a finished EPUB, Campfire has been building exactly that since 2018. If you are writing a long novel or a serial and the hard part is keeping chapter 80 consistent with chapter 8 while releasing chapters on a schedule, that is the problem Kanonara is built around: recorded canon with dated states, automated checking that cites its evidence, and a reader on the same fixed pages. Both are free to start: Campfire's free plan has per-module limits, and Kanonara's free tier is live in early access.
