Dungeon core is a web-fiction-native concept in which the protagonist is or controls a sentient, RPG-style dungeon. Community discussion frames it as "less of a genre but more of a worldbuilding type" than LitRPG proper: the dungeon is a system to run, with needs, progression and limits, rather than a backdrop for a conventional adventure plot.
How the dungeon's system works (its energy source, its limits, what it is fed by) tends to become a major plot point. The concept is almost entirely community- and platform-defined; no traditional-publishing or academic source for it exists, which is itself a real property of the genre.
